Clever Kids Camp
Clever Kids Camp is a fun, overnight weekend camp for children aged between 8-13 years-old with a diagnosis of dyslexia. The camp is based on the Clever Kids program which aims to improve self-esteem, resilience and assertiveness, and to help dyslexic students to develop effective coping strategies. Research has shown that these skills are linked to more positive outcomes for individuals with learning difficulties.
Clever Kids Camp provides campers with the opportunity to meet other young people with dyslexia, and to share their experiences with individuals who are facing similar challenges. Each camp has set times for learning and having fun, with camp activities a highlight on the Saturday afternoon.
Topics covered over the weekend include:
Self-awareness
Effective and ineffective coping strategies
Problem solving
Managing stress
Positive thinking
Assertiveness
Clever Kids Camp requires one parent or caregiver to stay for the duration of camp. Parent and caregiver support reduces separation anxiety and helps with generalisation and transfer of coping strategies after the completion of the Clever Kids program. Feedback from parents and caregivers who have attended Clever Kids Camp has been extremely positive with parents reporting improved understanding of their child’s dyslexia, increased knowledge on how best to support their child at home, and increased support from meeting other parents who are going through a similar journey.
Clever Kids Camp is held once a year and facilitated by Voon Pang and Liz Gibson (both speech-language therapists and Clever Kids facilitators).
Our next camp is scheduled on:
Date: 4-6th September 2026
Location: Wainui Park Camp, 95 Wainui Valley Road, Wainui, Christchurch
Enrolment Fee: $730 (for one camper and one parent)
The enrolment fee covers food and overnight accommodation, fun activities for the whole whānau, and the Clever Kids program (lessons and resources).

Camper Feedback:
“This is basically the best dyslexia thing I’ve ever seen, heard, and it’s even more precious that I can come to it. It’s just so awesome and I’ve never seen this in my whole life!”
Parent Feedback:
“Even if you are just starting your journey or quite a way through your journey, it’s still good to share other ideas with other parents and for the children to get together. Any stage of your journey, come along have fun, connect with other people, it’s just fantastic!”.
